Below you will find some helpful tips for finding the right property, renting your dream apartment, or even buying your own home in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region. We give you useful tips on a potential move as well as practical information on what to look out for when buying a house or renting an apartment.
Renting an apartment or buying a home
If you have found a suitable apartment to rent or the right home to buy, you will quickly realize that living here is comfortable and surprisingly affordable! Few other metropolitan regions in Germany offer reasonably priced and attractive homes in the city or in the countryside as the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region.
The rents for apartments and houses in the city of Nuremberg, for example, are much lower than those in other major cities such as Munich, Cologne, or Stuttgart. And it is the same picture throughout the entire metropolitan region: You can find a well-kept rental apartment in the region from as little as 400 to 500 euros. Prices are usually a little higher in the city centers.

Renting and the rent index in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region
In university cities such as Bamberg, Bayreuth, Erlangen, or Nuremberg, small apartments are in demand and somewhat more expensive. However, it shouldn’t take long for you to find a place with two to three rooms. In rural areas, the price range for rents is set at a lower level than in urban centers. Here you will even find terraced houses with gardens to rent for between 800 and 1,000 euros.
Many municipalities provide a rent index that analyzes the rent price of real estate according to indicators such as building age, square footage, and features. This makes it easy to determine whether the rent for an apartment is cheap, average, or a little too high. Find out more from the relevant municipality or city – in most cases, the rent indexes are also available online to download.
Rent or buy – apartment or house
Real estate prices
Rent or buy? Besides having financial consequences, this decision will depend on your individual future plans and needs. Renting gives you more flexibility and you do not have to worry about any upkeep or maintenance of the building. On the other hand, you have less freedom to design the home how you would like it. Buying, meanwhile, is an investment in your future as a form of retirement provision. However, it requires you to take greater personal responsibility, carry out more maintenance tasks, and finance the purchase price along with the interest, real estate tax, and notary costs.
